Battenfield Security's founder has been in law enforcement officer for more than 25 years. During that time, he served as a 911 operator, patrol officer, SWAT officer (dynamic entry team member and door breacher), aircraft pilot, and federal agent. He explains what caused him to start making these security devices.

"The idea for these devices came to me came to me while I was traveling for work. My job required that I travel frequently in order to support law enforcement operations across the country.

While I was out of town on an assignment, my wife called me in the middle of the night. She had been awakened by a noise downstairs. She told me that she thought someone was in the house. I told her to hang up with me and call 911 immediately.

As I waited for her to call me back, I could only think of the terrible things I had seen in my law enforcement career. I prayed that my family would be safe, but I felt helpless since I was more than 2,000 miles away from them.

Finally, after about 20 minutes, my wife called me back to report that everything was okay. The house had been searched and no one was inside. There were no signs of forced entry, but the cause of the noise was not determined. She said they were going to try to go back to sleep.

I tried to get some sleep, but I couldn’t. My mind was racing because I knew what could have happened if someone had broken into our house. I also knew that I had another assignment approaching and that I would be away from home for another two months. I did not want to worry about my family being harmed while I was away, so I decided to find a way to keep them safe.

Over the next few weeks, I designed a device that would protect my family from intruders and installed it in our home.  Since that time, I have gone on several assignments, but my family and I feel much safer because of the device."
